Dr. Paul Schubert has over 35 years of experience in development and commercialization of innovative technologies in the petrochemical and natural gas and renewables industries. Prior to starting Strategic Biofuels, he served as Chief Operating Officer of USA BioEnergy. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director for Velocys, a publicly traded company on the London AIM exchange. Additionally, he was responsible for all engineering, reactor and catalyst manufacturing, HSE, and R&D. This resulted in the successful commercial scale demonstration of the technology in partnership with Waste Management and NRG in Envia Energy LLC’s landfill gas to renewable diesel and wax plant on Waste Management’s Oklahoma City, OK landfill.

He previously served as Global Sales Manager for Asset Integrity Management and Director of Operations for SGS, the largest testing, inspection, and verification company in the world. Before that Dr. Schubert served as VP of R&D with Syntroleum and increasing levels of technology development and management with Catalytica, Phillips Petroleum, and Engelhard Corporation where he was responsible for commercialization of multiple products in the process and regulatory compliance industries.

Dr. Schubert is an inventor on 16 US patents and an author of over 40 publications. Dr. Schubert received his BS degree in Chemistry with Highest Honors from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He received his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Join us for the first part of our conversation with Dr Paul Schubert, CEO of Louisiana Green Fuels.

Topics covered in this video include;
-  Why this specific team is uniquely qualified to execute on this project
- Primary motivation for the founding team
- Day to day involvement of the SBf team in Louisiana Green Fuel plant operations
- Where has this complete grouping of technology been used before at the scale proposed for the LFG facility
- LGF’s primary competition
- Barriers to entry that will stop somebody else doing what LGF are doing
- Are there any risks of the demand for diesel produced by LGF being impacted by policy changes over the useful life of the project
- What are the policy risks to the revenue LGF is expected to generate in general, and in particular how you’ve mitigated risks related to federal and state renewable and low carbon fuels policies
- The biggest challenges associated with getting the Sequestration Well designed, permitted, installed and running
- Any CO2 transport considerations to take into account
- How far along is LGF with State and Federal regulatory processes? Outside of LA, these include engagement with the federal Department of Treasury & Environmental Protection Agency (CO2 sequestration, renewable fuels), and State of California’s Air Resources Board (low-carbon fuels)
- Biggest challenges with ensuring the federal and state carbon credits will be awarded
- What developments may happen in the low carbon fuels market over the next 5-10 years
- How many tons of CO2 per year will the plant sequester
- Will any CO2 generated by the plant not be sequestered
- Data on the lifecycle CO2 reduced/released from feedstock to production demonstrating the negative CO2 intensity
- Is it safe to sequester CO2 underground or could it have any negative environmental or public safety impacts
Join us for the Second part of our conversation with Dr Paul Schubert, CEO of Louisiana Green Fuels. Topics covered in this video include:
- Is there a limit to how much CO2 can be stored at the proposed Columbia site
- Contingency plans if pressures in the well cannot be maintained at safe levels
- Useful life expectancy of the LGF plant and what happens if/when the plant is decommissioned
- Estimated costs involved in decommissioning the plant
- How long will LGF be required to monitor the CO2 sequestration post plant decommissioning and how will these costs be met
 - Is there any requirement for LGF to contribute to any State Funds (LA, CA etc.) for Future Remediation of Loss of Containment or assumption of containment management
- How much fuel per year is the plant expected to generate
- Maximum storage capacity for diesel and naphtha at the plant, and what is the average expected storage utilization going to be (i.e. on average how much fuel is going to be stored on site)
- Safeguards present to prevent any unanticipated escape of diesel and/or naphtha from the plant?
- Safeguards to ensure no accidental fires at the diesel/naphtha storage
- Any proposed regulatory changes coming up that may materially impact LGF’s business plans
- Any other regulatory risks to be aware of
- Any primary showstoppers remaining at present
